Goodbye Mystery Writers Academy, Hello Sisters in Crime!

The Mystery Writers Academy of the Idaho Writers Guild has closed its doors to make way for a new chapter of Sisters In Crime. www.sistersincrime.org

Crime writing isn’t just one kind of story. Crime writing can encompass anything from Agatha Christie to Arthur Conan Doyle.

Sisters In Crime is a national organization that supports crime writers. But don’t worry, they support the brothers in crime too!

What’s the benefit?

We will have presentations on the craft of writing crime at each meeting. We will bring valuable speakers and resources that will help you improve your writing. Writing is a very solitary venture. Groups like this help us emerge from the lonely computer-at-the-desk-in-the-den, and connect with other writers. We need the social aspect of life to discuss, brainstorm, pitch, and learn from others. I always come away from meetings with new inspiration, vigor, and insight for my writing. Once you become a member of SinC National, you’ll have access to free webinars, discounts, and a ton of resources from their website.

What’s the cost?

At this time, we have not set any fees to join the Idaho chapter. And since we have not been adopted yet by National, there is no requirement to be a member of National yet, either. However, once a chapter membership annual fee is set, you will be required to pay that to be a member. That likely won’t happen until the end of 2023. Once all our paperwork is reviewed and approved by National, you will then also be required to be a member of SinC National, in order to be a member of a local chapter. National dues are either $50 or $60 a year, depending on your level of membership. The chapter dues will be less than that.

This group is for writers at every stage or level of writing from the beginner to the pro. It’s for writers of

  • Crime procedurals
  • Mystery and suspense
  • Thrillers
  • Cozy mysteries
  • And a host of subgenres like paranormal suspense, supernatural thrillers, etc.

If you want to write, or do write in this field, please consider attending a meeting and checking us out.
